Greece needs a unified, documented view of seismic risk for critical infrastructure. SEISMORISK prioritises bridges, road axes and building stock based on hazard, vulnerability and criticality.

NATIONAL BRIDGE SUMMARY

6,717
Bridges in national inventory (OSM)
61%
(~4,094)
Class C (older typologies)
28%
Class A (modern motorways)
52%
In EAK zones II-III (≥0.24g)

Screening classification by road typology (material and construction-year data are absent from the OSM inventory). Zones follow the EAK seismic hazard map (Gov. Gazette 1154B/2003) at regional-unit level. The classification is refined per structure in a pilot study.

Bridge Vulnerability Classes (SYNER-G)

ALow vulnerability. Modern construction with seismic design, single spans, good foundation.
BModerate vulnerability. Relatively modern construction with basic seismic design.
CHigh vulnerability. Older construction, multiple spans, no modern seismic design. Risk of damage in moderate earthquake.
DVery high vulnerability. Old pre-code construction, no bearings or expansion joints. Risk of collapse in strong earthquake.

Classification based on SYNER-G fragility curves (EU FP7)

Highest screening priority

Class C/D in Zone III (0.36g, Ionian islands): 37
